- Mindil Beach Sunset Markets - 24th April 2008 to 30th October 2008
The Mindil Beach Sunset Markets, have been operating at Darwin's beautiful Mindil Beach every Thursday night of the Dry Season since 1987 and on Sunday nights in the Dry since 1995. The Dry Season being from April through October.
Around 240 stalls operate every Thursday night, attracting thousands who come to eat, drink and watch the sun set over the Arafura Sea. Many visitors bring their own tables and chairs, and a chilled bottle of wine to enjoy.
Almost 60 food stalls, including Korean, Indonesian, Vietnamese, Japanese, Chinese, Sri Lankan, Thai, Laotian, Indian and even Yugoslavian. Aussie food stalls offer emu, kangaroo, buffalo and even crocodile!.
(Prawn skewers are my favourite.)
The remainder of the stalls are art and craft or charity stalls. Local arts and crafts and local entertainment are encouraged. The Sunday evening markets are smaller, with around 110 stalls.

The V8 Supercars weekend is incredibly popular with Territorians and Visitors alike.
The V8 Supercars always put on a spectacular show and the Hidden Valley track is a great venue for both drivers and spectators. This will be the 11th time Darwin has hosted the event and it never fails to excite and get the adrenalin pumping.

- Royal Darwin Show - 24th to 26th July 2008
The Royal Darwin Show is the premier event on the Top End community calendar, where city and country come together for three days of competition, entertainment and displays of primary industry, horticulture, art, craft, cooking and photography. The official opening is on the Friday, followed by a grand parade of livestock and machinery. Visitors can enjoy equestrian events, sideshow rides, varied live entertainment and a wide assortment of food and drink stalls that reflect the multicultural nature of Darwin.
Over 240 stalls display a wide variety of products and information and the animal nursery is extremely popular. Horses feature throughout from dressage and show jumping to working stock horses and polocrosse matches. The show closes with a spectacular fireworks finale.

The Carlton Draught Darwin Cup Carnival kicks off on Saturday 5th July 2008 and culminates in the running of the Carlton Draught Darwin Cup on Monday 4th August 2008. The program also features Ladies Day, where they can show off their finery and enjoy a sumptuous luncheon and a glass of bubbly.
The picturesque Fannie Bay Racecourse track is one of only a few dirt tracks in operation on the circuit, and the Carlton Draught Darwin Cup Day witnesses over 17,000 people bursting the rails. Dress up, dress casual or come in fancy dress, this is a racing Carnival not to be missed.
